I'm sure that the supplied power is quite low (I've read a 2.5V voltage), but still, it should be better than 100% passive. One caveat is that it needs to be supplied with "Plug-in Power" from your camera's mic input in order to operate, and not all cameras provide this (but the vast majority do). See here for instance : Ĭompact shotgun mics. And I can see refrences about "plug in power" on microphones. In the past, I used to own a camera which was not able to work with mics without a battery. It punches well above its class at the $40 USD and of every mic I've ever tested it's the best option <$125. You could be confusing XLR mic inputs that can have 48v phantom power but you won't see that in the 3.5mm camera Jack.Ĭheck out the Movo VXR10. A microphone Jack isn't going to power a mic, rather it's just the input for a passive mic.
